To do justice to the performers, the adjective in the title only describes my personal feelings, which could be or is probably, wrong.
The first one was a recent Italian opera. I remember being overwhelmed by the well-renowned blind Italian gentleman's rendition of the theme song in a Youtube video. But when I was in the concert hall, I couldn't wait to leave, annoyed by the boring storyline and the noise on the stage. The singing of various actors sounded like noise to me.
The second one was a Cantonese opera led by a very famous singer with decades of performance experiences. Despite all the positive reviews, I'm sorry to say that the voice wasn't strong or rich or expressive enough to impress me (of course I don't mean the louder the better), and I just couldn't help comparing the teacher and the student and sighed over the wide gap between them.
Well, tickets to these kinds of performance aren't inexpensive. Plus, it's not a good idea to leave early. After all, I'm just a layman to such high culture. My conclusion? No more.
